Surprise, surprise
"I’m not going to take your guns away" - said Mr. Obama when running for president. Yesterday Mr. Holder, his newly appointed Attorney General, announced that new gun-ban is in the works. Could Obama have lied? Impossible, not a Chicago politician. So there just must be some confusion. In hopes of seeing that confusion sorted out, I've donated 200 of my hard-earned dollars to the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action. If you think that ALL our civil rights must be protected, if you don't want to see civil rights dear to my heart violated today and civil rights dear to your heart violated tomorrow, join me and send a few bucks to the NRA-ILA. Or better yet, join the NRA. They're fighting to preserve the most endangered part of our Bill of Rights.

Are there any stats on how many NRA members actually possess guns?..

Never seen it. NRA has 3.8 million memebers. ~40 million people in US own guns. My guess is that gun ownership among NRA members is very close to a 100%.

With the worst intentions, of course 8-)

Ideas are always more credible when people advocating them do not benefit directly. Of course, the fact that you benefit from, say, some piece of legislature you support doesn't mean it isn't the right thing. It's just more convincing when it comes from a more detached source.

Thought so 8-) See, unlike pro-gay-rights people, people who have pro-gun-rights convictions can very easily become the part of the minority whose plight they support. Moreover, it's the most natural thing in the world for them to do. So almost all do.

Yes, that stands to reason. Although nothing prevents pro-gay-rights activists from joining the minority of their choice 8-)

Well done! Another interesting question: Is gun advocacy the result of nature or nurture? :-ф

>Well done!

So do you agree or disagree with that statement? I tend to think it's true, but, of course, I could be wrong. As far as I know there's no hard scientific evidence to prove it one way or another.

>Is gun advocacy the result of nature or nurture? :-ф

Since humans have no "gun-instinct", decidedly the latter :)

I think it's both, like in most cases. But as you said - there's herdly evidence, so I wouldn't be so bold as to have any opinion on that matter 8-)

Too rash, young man! People have no "shirt instinct", and yet twins separated at birth have been reported to have the preference for the same kinds of clothing. Who knows what evil gun-supporting instincts lurk in the hearts of men?..
